Iβve been contemplating conscious conception and fertility awareness lately, as last weekend I went on a camping trip and cracked open the book Conscious Conception: Elemental Journey Through the Labyrinth of Sexuality by Jeannine Parvati Baker. Opening up this book is like entering a portal into a new mystical and magical land of myth and creation. This portal has expanded my awareness and inner standing of conscious conception. It goes much deeper than the act of consciously conceiving a baby or intentionally making love while a woman is in her fertile period. Conscious conception is a way of living, a way of being. Being in constant awe and reverence of our bodies and their ability to create life, to carry souls from one mysterious realm to this Earthly realm. Fertility Awareness isnβt just a method used to prevent or encourage pregnancy.
βFertility awareness directs our attention to the natural knowing of the body.β
These are cyclical practices of coming home to ourselves, to remembering who we are- sacred and powerful beings. We return home and remember over and over and over again.
By intentionally excluding the words control (birth control) and method while speaking about fertility, we shift our mindset and reality from one of domination and power over, to one of collaboration and power within.
βInviting the word βcontrolβ into the fertility experience involves a guest we are all familiar with: fear of pregnancy and the need to control our ability to reproduce.β
Fear of pregnancy goes much deeper than just fear of pregnancy. Fear of pregnancy shapeshifts into fear of creation, fear of holiness, fear of life, fear of being seen, fear of our bodies, fear of mystery and the unknown, fear of nature, fear of death, and fear of freedom. Our fear-driven need to control and dominate over nature and her cycles has been devastatingly destructive.

When we let that innate knowing fall to the wayside and replace it with consumerism, we face an entirely new and unnatural mountain of symptoms and dis-eases. Depression, anxiety, infertility, malnutrition, cancer, surgical conceptions and births, starvation, and gluttony. All of these things go against the laws of nature.
When we consciously conceive our lives each moment of every day and when we live with deep awareness and reverence for our fertility, we live according to and in harmony with nature. We experience the magic, pleasure, and abundance this beautiful life has to offer us.
Just food for thoughtβ¦:) What does conscious conception mean to you?
